Kodiak: Error 34 / 35
Error 34/35 indicates that the ribbon is not rotating properly in the Kodiak (print head 1 / print head 2).
DuraLabel printers calibrate ribbon upon lid closure to reduce wrinkles and ensure optimal print quality. If the ribbons cannot rotate, the printer will present this error. In most cases, reloading the ribbon will resolve the issue but on occasion it can indicate that the tach sensors on the ribbon motors need replaced.
Troubleshooting:
- Power cycle the printer to ensure that it is not stuck in error status.
- Ensure that the ribbon is from DuraLabel by confirming the part number. Kodiak ribbon will start with K… This information can be found on the supply box or by selecting the supply icons in the top right corner on the printer screen or the printer icon in the top right corner of LabelForge Pro if printing from the PC. If the printer is showing a "!" icon over the supply icons when looking, it may not display the part number and the supply box or label on the cartridge will be needed.
- In the Kodiak swap the ribbon locations to see if the error changes from 34 to 35 or vice versa. If the error follows the ribbon, it indicates the ribbon/cartridge is defective. If the error does not change it may indicate the ribbon motor tach sensors are defective. If a second ribbon is not available, swap the blank ribbon cartridge location with the ribbon having issues. The Kodiak requires two ribbons to be loaded or a placeholder cartridge to deactivate one of the ribbon motors.
- In the Kodiak, remove the ribbon and reload it onto the cartridge, ensuring that the orange end cap with the chip is installed first, followed by the opposite grey side. Additionally, ensure that the orange wheels on the take-up tube are fully inserted in the tube. If askew, they can drag when rotating, causing this error. There should be 1mm of space between the wheel and cartridge on each side.
- Load a new or different 8.6” ribbon into the printer to determine if the issue is with the current ribbon or all ribbons. Error can be more common with 4.3” ribbon.
- In the Kodiak, excessive amounts of ribbon on the take-up tube can cause this error. Cut the ribbon and install a new cardboard spool or remove ribbon from take-up spool if a new tube is not available.
- If error continues, contact Tech Support or your Account Manager for further instructions.
