Kodiak: Error 4

Error 4 indicates that that the Kodiak sees supply or debris in the cutter slot.

DuraLabel printers include an automatic cutter that actuates after each label to ensure a clean edge for smooth feeding and operation. The Kodiak has a sensor in the cutter slot to detect the presence of supply or foreign objects. If it sees anything in the slot, it will error and retract the label supply back to the supply well.

Troubleshooting:

  1. Power cycle the printer to ensure that it is not stuck in error status.
  2. Verify that the supply is loaded correctly. The printer will feed to the cutter and then back-feed to the yellow line. If fed through the cutter on loading, it will present this error.
  3. Lift both ribbon print heads and check for supply or ribbon that might be stuck in the cutter or the area just before the cutter.
  4. Clean the cutter sensor (top and bottom). It may be necessary to remove the cutter faceplate to access the sensor. Canned air may help dislodge any debris.
  5. Confirm that the label tape is not dragging on the media guides (there should be 1-2mm of space on each side of the media guides to avoid crushing the tape).
  6. Load a different roll of label material to ensure there is no issue with the specific supply type. Shiny material can cause sensor issues due to reflectivity.
