Kodiak: Error 403

Error 403 indicates that the LabelForge Pro software cannot read the label supply. This is usually accompanied by printer Error 6 or 10.

The LabelForge Pro software requires information about the label material, size, color and appropriate printer settings from the smart chip in the supply to interface with the printer. Without access to this information, the software cannot display the appropriate canvas and background. The chip is housed on the end cap that has the DuraLabel label. This chip must face the antenna in the printer for the software to read the material.

Troubleshooting:

  1. Ensure that the roll of label stock is from DuraLabel by confirming the part number. Kodiak supply will start with K… This information can be found on the supply box or by selecting the roll icon in the top right corner of LabelForge Pro or on the printer screen.
  2. Confirm the end cap with the DuraLabel label and smart chip are facing the antenna. In the Kodiak it should be facing the right side, toward the door opening.
  3. Set the driver as the default. This may help the software register the correct printer and supplies.
  4. Close and then open the software to reestablish communication with the printer.
  5. Open and close the lid to ensure the printer is registering the lid closure. The lid must be closed for the software to detect the supplies.
  6. Load a different roll of label material into the printer to test if the software is failing to read multiple rolls. Ideally this should be new supply so that we can confirm the part number from the box. If the issue only occurs with a single roll then this indicates the chip in the one roll of supply is defective and should be replaced. If all rolls present the error, there may be an issue with the software, the printer driver or the printer’s antenna.
  7. Uninstall and reinstall the driver. Be sure to power cycle the computer after uninstallation and again after installation. When installing, it is best to be logged in as admin as opposed to installing at the user level with admin permissions. You may need to set the driver as default again.
  8. Uninstall and reinstall the software. When installing, it is best to be logged in as admin as opposed to installing at the user level with admin permissions.
