Kodiak: Error 412

Error 412 indicates that the printer is not ready when LabelForge Pro attempts to print. Most likely to occur if supply status is still registering on the machine or machine hasn’t fully registered that the lid is closed.

The LabelForge Pro software requires information about the label material, size, color and appropriate printer settings from the smart chip in the ribbon to interface with the printer. The printer reads this information upon lid closure and will display the appropriate color, size and part number in the labeling software. Attempting to print before the information is confirmed by the printer can result in this error.

Troubleshooting:

  1. Open and close the lid to ensure the printer is registering the lid closure. The lid must be closed for the software to detect the supplies.
  2. Power cycle the printer to ensure that it is not stuck in error status.
  3. Ensure that the cutter door is closed and the cutter is not jammed.
  4. Ensure that the roll of label stock is from DuraLabel by confirming the part number. Kodiak supply will start with K…
  5. Confirm the end cap with the DuraLabel label and smart chip are facing the antenna. In the Kodiak it should be facing the right side, toward the door opening.
  6. Load a different roll of label material into the printer to test if the software is failing to read multiple rolls. Ideally this should be new supply so that we can confirm the part number from the box. If the issue only occurs with a single roll then this indicates the chip in the one roll of supply is defective and should be replaced. If all rolls present the error, there may be an issue with the software, the printer driver or the printer’s antenna.
  7. Ensure that the ribbon is from DuraLabel by confirming the part number. Kodiak ribbon will start with K…
  8. Confirm the ribbon chip is still present in the cartridge and hasn’t shifted or slipped out of its housing. In the Kodiak, it should be on the orange end piece with the silver arrow. If it has shifted, it can be pushed back into place. If it’s missing, the ribbon or ribbon chip will need to be replaced.
  9. Remove the ribbon from the printer and reseat the cartridge to ensure that the ribbon chip is making contact with the ribbon pins in the printer. If pressed into the printer, pins should spring back out.
  10. Load a new or different ribbon into the printer to determine if the issue is with the current ribbon or all ribbons.
  11. Set the driver as the default. This may help the software register the correct printer and supplies.
  12. Close and then open the software to reestablish communication with the printer.
