Whether you’re setting up your Kodiak Max for the first time or need a quick refresher, this guide will walk you through the full process so you can start creating durable, professional signs and labels with confidence.
1. Prepare for safe unloading and unboxing 0:24
- Confirm the Kodiak Max is being handled as a heavy industrial print system.
- Use 2 people whenever possible to unload and move the printer.
- Keep the printer supported at all times and do not attempt to remove it from the box alone.
- Gather a box knife and a clear work surface before opening the packaging.
2. Open the outer and inner packaging 0:41
- Cut along the top of the outer box with a box knife.
- Cut both sides of the outer box to fully open it.
- Remove the secondary box and foam inserts from the outer packaging.
- Open the secondary box from the top and sides.
- Remove the foam corner inserts carefully and set them aside.
3. Remove the printer and review included documentation 1:21
- Locate the Quick Start Manual first and review it for setup, registration, supply loading, and LabelForge PRO printing guidance.
- Remove the accessory bag and set it aside for later use.
- With two people, lift the Kodiak Max out of the packaging carefully.

- Note that the touchscreen is used to create signs and labels in LabelForge PRO.

- Understand that the cutter automatically trims labels after printing.

- Recognize that the printer includes a blank quick load ribbon cartridge for single-color printing.
- Use the blank cartridge only on Print Head 1 when printing one-color signs.
- For two-color printing, use the appropriate colored ribbon cartridges on the correct print heads.
- Before loading supplies, ensure the printer is powered off and in the correct loading state.
- Avoid touching the print heads directly.
8. Review supported supply types and applications 4:26
- Confirm the printer supports premium vinyl supply from 4 to 10 inches wide.
- Use compatible premium vinyl and quick load ribbon cartridges sold separately, unless included in your kit.
- Use the system for industrial applications such as:
- GHS chemical labels
- OSHA and ANSI signs

- Equipment labels
- Use approved supplies for indoor, outdoor, hot, cold, wet, or dry environments.
9. Inventory the included accessories 5:11

- Blank quick load ribbon cartridge
- Wireless keyboard
- USB network cable for PC connection
- Power cord
- USB flash drive with LabelForge PRO and PC driver information

- Note that the keyboard batteries and USB receiver may already be pre-installed.
10. Load the premium vinyl supply 6:51
- Confirm the premium vinyl supply and ribbon cartridges are available; these may be sold separately depending on the order.
- Remove any tabs or packaging from the vinyl roll.
- Place the vinyl into the supply well with the DuraLabel sticker facing outward.
- Extend the supply within the 4-inch to 10-inch width range.
- Unlatch the feed roller bar, feed the vinyl past the yellow sticker and tape guides, then secure the feed roller bar and latch.
11. Install the ribbon cartridges for two-color printing 8:08
- For a two-color print, remove the blank ribbon cartridge from Print Head 1.
- Lift the cartridge until it clicks, remove it, and set it aside.
- Open the red ribbon cartridge box and remove the cartridge.
- Check orientation: the sticker should face toward the open lid side of the printer.
- Install the red cartridge on Print Head 1, secure it, and close the latch.
- Open the black ribbon cartridge box, remove packaging cardboard, and install the black cartridge on Print Head 2 using the same orientation rule.
- Secure Print Head 2 by lifting until it clicks, lowering it gently, and closing the latch.
12. Close the printer and power it on 10:18
- Close the printer lid after supplies are loaded and secured.
- Plug the power cord into the printer and then into a nearby outlet.
- Turn on the power switch located next to the power socket.
- Confirm the printer powers on when the green light appears.

- Use the keyboard as a touchpad/mouse for setup navigation.
