KodiakMax: Error 34/35

Error 34/35 indicates that the ribbon is not rotating properly in the KodiakMax (print head 1 / print head 2).

DuraLabel printers calibrate ribbon upon lid closure to reduce wrinkles and ensure optimal print quality. If the ribbons cannot rotate, the printer will present this error. In most cases, reloading the ribbon will resolve the issue but on occasion it can indicate that the tach sensors on the ribbon motors need replaced.

Troubleshooting:

  1. Power cycle the printer to ensure that it is not stuck in error status.
  2. Ensure that the ribbon is from DuraLabel by confirming the part number. KodiakMax ribbon will start with K… This information can be found on the supply box or by selecting the roll icon in the top right corner of LabelForge Pro or on the printer screen.
  3. In the KodiakMax swap the ribbon locations to see if the error changes from 34 to 35 or vice versa. If the error follows the ribbon, it indicates the ribbon/cartridge is defective.
    1. If the error does not change it may indicate the ribbon motor tach sensors are defective.
    2. If a second ribbon is not available, swap the blank ribbon cartridge location with the ribbon having issues. The KodiakMax requires two ribbons to be loaded or a placeholder cartridge to deactivate one of the ribbon motors.
  4. Remove the ribbon from the printer and then reseat the cartridge to ensure that the ribbon chip is making contact with the ribbon pins in the printer.
  5. Load a new or different 8.6” ribbon into the printer to determine if the issue is with the current ribbon or all ribbons. Error can be more common with 4.3” ribbon.
  6. In the KodiakMax, calibrate the sensor by navigating to Settings, Advanced, Calibrate Supply Sensor.
  7. If the error continues, contact Tech Support or your Account Manager for further instructions.
